Three peaks were successfully ascended by our brave mountaineers in both good and awful conditions. See more here.

Three Peaks Challenge

on .

What do a group of friends aged between 55 and 73 do during a wet and windy August week? They trek up some of the highest peaks in the UK, of course! To raise money for the physiotherapy programme at the Belarusian Children's Hospice, three Friends of BCH trustees set off with spouses, friends and some family members to undertake the Three Peaks Challenge.

Scafell cropped and compressedThe Lake District provided varying conditions and Snowdon blew a hoolie with vertical rain. As for Ben Nevis, sadly we did not even get there as the weather decided to add two days of thunder and lightning to the mix which is a serious contra-indication for mountain ascents. Given the circumstances, we substituted Helvellyn, Swirral Edge and Striding Edge. The conditions were perfect and the views dizzying. Our Sca Fell and Snowdon ascents, however, were done in poor visibility as the photo testifies!

So job done in that Three Peaks were ascended although the lack of the Ben does niggle at the back of the mind. We hope our kind sponsors understand our decision, taken with professional advice, to vary our intended itinerary. We would like to express our gratitude to all our sponsors who between them have donated the magnificent sum of almost £8,500.

We would just like to add, as a footnote, that all costs of the trip were fully covered by the participants themselves.
