Children's Stories

Danil's Story

Danil is 12 years old and football mad. Danil is a Chernobyl baby. His mother was in an area of high irradiation as a child. When we met him at the summer holiday centre, he was proud to demonstrate all the English words he knew and followed us wherever we went with a mischievous twinkle in his eye in the hope that we might kick a ball with him.

Danil has the abnormal internal organs, poor physical development and limited intellect associated with the effects of this disaster.

He is a loving and active child, always laughing and always looking for someone to play ball! Danil comes to the hospice in Minsk regularly where he is able to interact with other children, play games and enjoy the many activities organised there.
